Vine to Wine: June
Welcome to the Vine to Wine Series.
In this series, Alice sits down with winemaker Gavin Patterson monthly, to talk about what is happening in the Vineyard and Winery.
This month: June
THE VINEYARD:
June marks the start of summer growth in the vineyard and when coupled with dry and warm weather conditions, ‘it is shaping up to have a good potential growth’, so much so, that it looks similar to the 2018 vintage.
The vineyard is currently in its early growth stage, whereby the vines are growing at a rapid rate on a weekly basis, up to 5cm in some instances! During this growth period, the inflorescence start forming, which are the early grape clusters. In order for balanced vine growth throughout the vineyard, our skilled vineyard team, ensure maximum air movement and sunlight by trimming and guiding the vine leaf canopy.
Gavin goes on to say that there is a nutrition programme to ensure the vines are happy and healthy. Using a biofarming approach, utilising ‘worm compost full of microbiological life that promotes a symbiotic relationship between soil and vine’, this type of sustainable farming maximises the vines natural ability to fight fugal disease.
THE WINERY:
This month, Gavin is preparing to bottle the estate still wines, the white and rosé; Vivienne 2022 & Suzanne 2022, which will have a release date in the calendar very soon!
Not only this, but the premium sparkling Isadora Rosé 2022 & LXX Blanc de Noir 2022 are also being assembled ready for tirage, a french term meaning to prepare the wines for their second stage of fermentation in bottle. From this point, the maturation period begins, during which the sparkle is created, as well as extra flavour and depth of character, over a period of 18 and 32 months respectively before release.
If you wish to purchase any of the current vintages, visit our website or come in store, as once they are gone, they are gone!
Stay tuned for next month; July!
