Hencote Wines Awarded Silver and Bronze at Decanter World Wine Awards
We are delighted to announce that three of our 2018 vintage wines have achieved a Silver and Bronze medals at the Decanter World Wine Awards! The Awards are one of the most prestigious international wine competitions, with over 16,000 wines entered from 58 different countries, and so we are particularly thrilled that our wines from our first vintage grown and bottled on the Estate has received such recognition.
Amongst the three wines entered, our Evolution Sparkling and Solaris 2018 both received Bronze medals whilst our Mark I placed amongst the top five English wines in the red wine category with a Silver medal and 91 points. This award is our greatest achievement to date, placing our Mark I amongst the best red wines produced across the country.
Mark I Places in Top Five English Red Wines
Our Mark I is the culmination of our desire to produce a quality red wine from our Estate; A unique challenge, given our cool climate and northerly location nearly 200 miles north of the major winegrowing area of England in the South East. We knew early on that we would need to cultivate a philosophy and practice of vineyard management that would allow our Shropshire vineyard to thrive.
The judges tasting notes state that our Mark I enjoys “great concentration of fragrant raspberry fruit, supported by oak tannin and spice. Ambitious and showing great Pinot Noir typicity“.
Evolution Sparkling and Solaris 2018 Both Win Bronze Medals
Both our Solaris and Evolution were also well regarded, with the former described as enjoying “touches of white blossom and smoke, over attractive flavours of lemon rind and apple skin” whilst the sparkling has a “fruit-drive style, with tart red apples, green pepper and touches of peach.”
Each of our wines are available for you to enjoy on the Hencote Estate at our restaurant the View, now open seven days a week.
