Hencote wins 3 Silver Awards at The International Wine Challenge Award

The International Wine Challenge (IWC) is known to be one of the world’s most meticulous, impartial yet influential annual wine competition. Every April, wine makers and vineyards from around the world enter their wines into the competition to be tasted and critiqued by wine experts, influencers and wholesale buyers.

The judges taste each wine ‘blind’, where there is no pricing or production information provided. Wines are grouped by their type, region, alcohol and sugar % to ensure similar wines are judged together. Wines which are put forward to be awarded medals, will be tasted on at least three separate occasions by a minimum of two panel judges, before being further tasted by two co-chairs to verify the panels results.

With this, we are pleased to announce the Hencote received 3 silver medals for the 2021 Vivienne, 2020 Evolution and LXX scoring 90, 91, 92 points respectively.

Helen McGuinn (pictured above and one of the judges at the IWC) messaged us directly on Instagram after we had announced our wines and said

“The competition is getting tougher every year so this is an AMAZING achievement…you should feel very proud!”

Helen is best known as author of The Knackered Mother’s Wine Club, the award winning wine blog and best selling book. Having sourced wines as a buyer for Tesco, Helen now writes weekly columns in a variety of newspaper and appears on TV for Saturday Kitchen regularly.

Saturday 27th May

With all this excitement, we are pleased to announce that this Saturday (27th May) we are having two launches.

Firstly, we are officially launching the 2020 Evolution, where everyone who walks through the Hencote door on Saturday will receive a complimentary glass of the award winning wine.

Not only this, but we are also opening our feature terrace bar, The Hencote Hideout, which is locate on the lower balcony overlooking the vineyard.

We have ordered warm weather and with a DJ from 3-7pm it is set to be a fun filled day.

No need to book if you are joining for just drinks, but seats will be available on a first come first served basis. Please book if you are wanting to join us for food in The View Restaurant or partake in a wine tour and tasting.
