The attractive lime green hue to the colour is a line of identity for this wine that follows right through to lifted citrus and tropical notes with green banana, lime and passionfruit on entry to a broad yet elegant mid palate. The long finish shows off the fact that mouthfeel is primarily about elements coming together as seamless and balanced and not driven by any one aspect of the taste. This is a typical blend but each component plays a part of the overall profile. Solaris brings the acidity with lime, broadening the feel and making supple wine. The Chardonnay is on the palate providing freshness and length in texture.

A standard method of destemming on reception is followed with whole berries drained and gently pressed to steel tank for settling and fermentation at controlled temperature ensues for 3 weeks until fully complete. Varieties are kept in separate tanks on fine lees with periodic lees stirring for flavour integration and mouth feel for the period over winter. Blending is carried out at the onset of spring followed immediately by bottling.

Very cool temperatures in spring and continuing late into the growing season resulted in the usually early ripening Solaris to only be fully ripe two weeks later than the norm, these conditions pushed the Chardonnay which is usually late to ripen right into the risky later part of autumn. Fortunately, favourable flowering conditions set a good crop which with mild weather was able to mature on the vine over an extended time for the fruit to reach acceptable maturity. Grapes were picked at the optimum phenolic stage to maximise flavour intensity and each day’s harvest is kept separate.
