MEET THE TEAM – ALICE TURNBULL
Marketing Manager & Head of Wine
Where are you from?
I was born in Plymouth but as my dad was in the Royal Navy, I spent a lot of my childhood moving around quite a bit- every 3 to 4 years to be exact. As an only child, it was hard starting new schools and meeting new people, but looking back on it, I wouldn’t change it. Moving around has allowed me to meet some amazing people and live in some beautiful places.
Have you lived elsewhere?
I have lived in many different counties across the UK including Somerset, Scotland, Devon and Surrey. I even spent four and half years living on the East Coast of America, Virginia, during my middle and high school years (I just missed out on prom and learning to drive at 16!). Having the chance to attend school in America taught me many valuable life lessons; I became independent, self reliant and gained excellent time-management skills after missing my yellow school bus once or twice.
Describe your job in 3 words.
Creative, collaborative and constantly evolving ( I know that’s four words)
What is the most exciting part about your job?
My job is two parts. In terms of Marketing, the most exciting part is keeping up to date with current trends whether that be for social media or website SEO. I love being able to constantly update the website, manage content shoots, collaborate with local businesses and be creative in graphic design.
As Head of Wine, I love understanding wine trends and creating new and exciting tours and experiences for guests.
What is your proudest achievement to date?
My proudest achievement to date is having designed the 2020 Evolution Sparkling wine label. The label itself represents Hencote wine sitting centre of everything we do at the Estate, the circle is the circle of evolution, constantly changing and adapting and the pattern and texture is the bubbles found in sparkling wine. The 2020 Evolution wine also signifies the hardship we, as a vineyard, faced in that year. It combines several varieties of grapes and is the only wine produced that year, so we were delighted to have it awarded Silver in the International Wine Challenge 2023 awards.
Best memory since working at Hencote?
The best memory I have since working at Hencote is from the 2022/2023 New Years Eve Party. I was the one to come up with the James Bond casino night (as I am a huge Bond fan). I was able to organise and work with different suppliers and departments to bring it all together, and seeing my idea and vision come to fruition was incredible. I was lucky enough to attend and enjoy the event with my family, however the best memory of the night was when the whole of Shrewsbury had a power cut, just before midnight. The DJ started playing his acoustic guitar whilst everyone in attendance started singing along, swaying their phone torches in the darkness. Having worked so hard up to that night, it was amazing to see that the team who were working that night still carried on as normal, despite not being able to see much, and everyone still had an amazing experience.
What do you get up to in your spare time?
What don’t I get up to!
I spend most of my weekends attending, showing and judging at dog shows, up and down the country. I am the Secretary of my dog breed, the German Wirehaired Pointer and sit on the committee of my local village hall, where I take care of all the marketing and events. With all of this, I still manage to squeeze in time to see my university friends and family, whilst also having time to renovate and decorate my house.
